Election Day! Go and VOTE!

I write this morning with a deep level of hope and optimism. This morning I proudly practiced my democratic right to vote to elect candidates up and down the ballot (from federal and state positions to local positions, including school board, soil and water, and of course city council).

Today was extra special for me, not because my name was on the ballot, but more importantly because my son Ryan voted for the first time. His thoughts, ideas, and questions (even to his mom), make me hopeful that many of our youngest citizens are taking the time and care to cast their vote for the positive future they want to strive to make a reality for all.

I am also optimistic for our future after meeting with so many of our amazing neighbors these past weeks. Thank you for sharing your stories, ideas, and vision for our community with me. It's people like Barbara at 91 who shared stories of all the "history" happening during her lifetime. Or Sharon, who has lived in Apple Valley for 58 years, raising her family and sharing all the changes she has seen in our community over the years. Just yesterday I met Manuel, who came to the U.S. several years ago for a better life for his family and recently earned his U.S. citizenship. He and his wife were voting for the first time! (I have changed people's names).

I have met so many great people on my campaign journey. I appreciate you sharing your time with me. And yes, even the guy who ripped up my literature and called me names. All of our neighbors I met were excited, energetic, and engaged in our democratic process. This is what today is all about. Thank you for being a part of it!
